Details

From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0rc1) Gecko/20020417 BuildID: 2002041711 When you click to save or open a file in Mozilla, the Windows explorer file manager displays each item in the directory sequentially one after the other, taking several seconds to display the entire contents of any given directory. In other programs and browsers this directory display is instantaneous. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Click the File menu 2. Open File Actual Results: The directory displays very slowly, one file after another. Expected Results: The directory should have displayed instantaneously. This happens with each directory you enter, not just the first one.

Oh I guess should mention that I am running a P2 Dual 400 with 512MB of RAM. Also, this bug existed under 0.9.9 as well, but I can't recall if it existed before that or not.
I've been seeing this bug something like once every 3 days for the past 3 weeks and am currently seeing it in Mozilla 2002043006 (1.0 branch), Windows 2000 SP2. I've only seen it with File -> Open and it can take me something like 60 seconds to get a directory listing. if this isn't fixable by wiping out my profile and beginning again (which I haven't tried) then I suggest this is a RC2/1.0 showstopper
WFM with 2002092308/trunk/win2k (although I used to experience this with old versions of mozilla - maybe related to bug 133732?) reporter (Curtis): can you reproduce this bug with a recent build of mozilla (for example, 1.2alpha)? if so, please comment again with details. if not, please resolve this bug as WORKSFORME. thanks.
I'm afraid it's still here in 1.2alpha as well. It's not quite as severe, but definitely bad enough that it makes it very tedious saving into directories with lots of files.
I still see it with Mozilla 1.1, Windows 2000. this is not bug 133732

Hm actually it seems to have disappeared now in Mozilla 1.2a. Earlier today I noticed it wasn't happening anymore, so I just tested it again now and it's still not occuring. I'll let you know if it comes back again and see if I can figure out what causes it.
resolving WORKSFORME per previous comment. if either of you can reproduce this with a recent build (even 1.2a is quite old by now - 1.2 final will be out in a few days...), please reopen and give details. thanks.

Hm, it seems to be back with a vengeance now in both Mozilla 1.3a and the nightly build 2002122008. It's now the worst I've seen it and opening and saving files in Mozilla takes some SERIOUS patience :-(

re comment #9, ditto myself with 1.2.1 on Windows2000SP3
I've gone back to 1.3a as the nightly builds were too unstable, and the problem seems to have gone away again. Why? I have NO clue.
Dupe of bug 111821? "File Save As dialog loads filenames very slowly"
looks as though this would be a dupe of 111821 except for that bug is only about saving, where-as this bug is about both saving and opening
It's the same dialog *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 111821 ***
