Recently we shipped at least two bugs (bug 1388584, bug 1389160) that caused problems for users with non-ascii characters in the path leading to their profile (username containing unicode, for instance). It is clear that we have no or minimal test coverage for this case, and I found it very difficult to do on a per-component basis at least for addons manager.

One suggestion from asutherland in bug 1389160 comment 39 is for the profile path generated by the XPCShell test harness to contain special characters that should find these sorts of bugs.
