Details

Once you have more than eight pages in Top Sites, they flow onto additional "panes" which can be scrolled to by swiping the Top Sites pane. When you visit a page once or twice, it appears in Highlights, but visit it more and it is moved to the last pane of Top Sites. There are several problems with this. 1. There is no visual indication of the existence of those other Top Sites panes. There used to be a subtle ellipsis, but it was removed. 2. Users unaware of the other Top Sites panes will see that more frequently visited pages inexplicably "disappear" from Highlights. 3. Users who know about the other Top Sites panes still get degraded usability, from a single tap on a page to having to swipe multiple times to find it. The amount of scrolling/swiping does not scale monotonically with page unpopularity. 4. As Top Sites fills up, the number of visits it takes to "promote" a Highlighted page to Top Sites increases in an unpredictable way. There are multiple Law of Least Astonishment violations here. The obvious solution is not to have multiple panes of Top Sites.

Thanks for filing, Paul! We have a bug open to hint at subsequent pages of top sites, which we didn't finish porting over.
