Details
(Keywords: regression, regressionwindow-wanted)
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:55.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/55.0 Build ID: 20170824053622 Steps to reproduce: In Firefox 55.0.3 (32-bit), I open the Library window, select the Downloads section and press the 'Clear Downloads' button. Actual results: Nothing happens after clicking the 'Clear Downloads' button, the list of downloads is unchanged and no message is shown. Expected results: The list of downloads should have been cleared.
Additional tests I made: - Installed the Places Maintenance add-on from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/ - I left it running over night, it never returned, I had to cancel it. - I cannot export bookmarks: Go to Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Backup, then specify a path for the JSON file -- no file is generated
One more test that failed: - could not manually remove entries from the download list by rt-clicking on the entry and either select 'Remove from history' or 'Clear downloads'
One more data point: - Restarting in Safe Mode (with add-ons disabled) does not change any of this, all the above issues are still present.

Off-hand this is a case of corrupt database, nothing works, we can't do much. You should remove places.sqlite and let firefox create a new one. This may also help https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Tech/Places/places.sqlite_Database_Troubleshooting#How_to_(try_to)_recover_from_a_corrupt_places.sqlite

Thanks for the feedback. Deleting places.sqlite will remove all bookmarks, no?
