Hi team,
We would like to run 3 snippets from mid-September until the end of the month, please let us know if that’s possible. I’m adding the copy below.
Locales: de, es, fr, it, pl (All to be run in Europe only, if possible)
URL: https://www.changecopyright.org
Snippet #1:
Internet in the EU is under threat — only 2 weeks 'til they vote on it! Make a free call to an MEP, to save the internet for you and me.
Snippet #2:
If you think the internet deserves #NOFILTER, help save copyright by calling an MEP today.
Snippet #3:
The EU's freedom to meme is at stake! Call an MEP and tell them to fix their ancient, archaic, laws.
Please let me know once the snippets are approved so that I can kick-off localization.
Thanks!

Proposed icons
Those are only inspiration for our designer, we should get the final icons tomorrow.
> Locales: de, es, fr, it, pl
+ English, of course.
We may want to be stricter on the country list, checking what the final list would be.

Adding Wes and Will to the bug. Will is part of the Mozilla Foundation advocacy team - Will can you confirm if these work for you?
Thanks,
Jean

Yes, these are fine, copy-wise. (Theo is also part of the advocacy team, as well. :-) )
We do of course need to be careful around timing, and make 100% sure that the site (changecopyright.org) has been updated with the call tool before we run these. (However, that should not stop Theo from moving forward on localization, assuming that the copy is OK w/the snippets team.) Thanks!

Ah great, just wanted to double confirm :)
Wes if you can help Theo with the next steps. Thanks!

Just to confirm that we can run the snippet anywhere in Europe, for all the locales mentioned above.
Regarding the end date, the snippet cannot run after September 28th.
Let me know if I can start exposing the strings :)

Can do, Jean.
Théo, your copy looks good to me (I LOL'd at the "EU's freedom to meme" one). Let me take these snippets through our review process before you start localizing, just to be sure we won't need to make changes to copy after localization has already started. I'll update this bug on Monday with the green light to start localization or updated copy. Either way, we should be able to get the localization ball rolling on Monday. When strings are complete I can program snippets to start mid-September and run up to the 28th.
Does that work for your timeline?
When exactly is the vote? I don't want to run the snippet that mentions "only 2 weeks 'til they vote on it" at the wrong time.

Wes -- vote is scheduled for Sept. 28th. That _could_ change, it's the European Parliament after all ... but right now we should assume that these snippets should completely stop EOD (pacific time) on Sept. 27th. (Not a good idea to run snippets day of the vote, both due to latency and the fact that calls at this point will be ineffective.)

Sounds good to me, schedule-wise. But note that Monday is Labor Day.
Temi, should we update the first one to “only one week ’til they vote on it” and use that snippet from Sept 21st? Then use the other ones from mid-September?

Yep that works Theo.
Wes, (hi! We've not met. I'm new to the advocacy media team!) just to ensure things are clear - we'd like to run these two from mid September:
Snippet #2:
If you think the internet deserves #NOFILTER, help save copyright by calling an MEP today.
Snippet #3:
The EU's freedom to meme is at stake! Call an MEP and tell them to fix their ancient, archaic, laws.
And this one from September 20th (if this is possible):
Snippet #1:
Internet in the EU is under threat — only 1 week 'til they vote on it! Make a free call to an MEP, to save the internet for you and me.

Hi, Temi, nice to e-meet you. Congrats on joining the advocacy team!
I took your snippets through our review process and have some minor edits to pass along. After edits are made, we can run these snippets on the dates you requested.
1) Please specify what an "MEP" is in the snippet text.
2) Make it clear if we are passing a new law or fixing an archaic one.
3) Can we mention copyright law in all snippets? Snippet #3 gives the impression that only memes are threatened by ancient laws while snippet #1 is unclear how the internet is under threat.
Thanks!

Hiya Wes,
Ok - thanks for highlighting the above! We've been advised by Melissa to stay away from trying to explain (in a single sentence at least) what copyright reform is because it's super wonky and difficult, but that in effect the vote on these copyright proposals really will harm the internet and so we should be hyperbolic!!
I've specified what an MEP is in the snippet amends below, but I do feel this extends the character limit beyond what's recommended in the snippet guide (and it ruins the poem in draft 1 a bit!). So if we could keep it MEP that would be preferred. FYI in Europe & UK/English, 'MEP' is a very well known acronym :)
Draft #1 The Internet in the EU is under threat — proposed copyright reform will harm it! Make a call to an Member of European Parliament, to save the internet for you and me.
Draft #2 If you think the internet deserves #NOFILTER, help fix copyright reform by calling an Member of European Parliament today.
Draft #3 One of the EU's copyright proposals puts the EU's freedom to meme at stake! Call an Member of European Parliament and tell them to fix copyright reform.

Thanks for updating snippets, Temi. They all look good to me.
I am hesitant about assuming everyone will know what the acroymn MEP means. How about we test two versions of snippet draft #1? One version featuring the MEP acroynym and the other version speicifically stating "Member of European Parliment." After two days we can look at engament rates and keep the winner.
Théo, feel free to start strings whenever you are ready.

! That's a great idea (wasn't sure if we could A/B test snippets!!)
For icons, we're going to need to re-use these:

2) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz48kfsl_32Oby1Jbm9XcEVVVHM/view
3) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz48kfsl_32Oc3pYbEY5OHZiSWs/view
Do you need anything else from me?

I wouldn’t use number 2 as “EU” is an English acronym.

Hi Wes,
The creative team managed to design some snippets they are here:
We'd like to go with the phone, the eu flag, and the copyright sign.
Is there anything else required? https://redpen.io/p/xf129c5c75e2e599b3

Super! I am happy we could get some new icons. Can you send me assets in a google folder or just email them to me? I don't know how to grab them from redpen.
Thanks.

Hey Wes, the vote has been once again rescheduled, to December this time. We would like to keep everything ready, but run the snippets closer to this new date, would that be possible?
We don’t know yet when it would be best to run them, but I will keep you posted.
Thanks for your patience with this one!

Hey Théo, I am fine with pushing these snippets back. Let me know dates when you can so I can fit them into the rotation.
