Details
My Pixel just got an OTA update of Android 8 and I can confirm that Add to homescreen is broken in Firefox.
Device: Google Pixel
OS: Android 8
Firefox version: 55.0.2
This is likely due to API changes in SDK 26 https://medium.com/@firt/android-oreo-takes-a-bite-out-of-progressive-web-apps-30b7e854648f
Note that Chrome appears to have switched to WebAPK so some web apps (which meet some arbitrary criteria set by Google) added to the homescreen from Chrome seem to get packaged as an APK and represented by the icon provided in the web app manifest, otherwise the new Pinned Shortcuts API (https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/shortcuts.html#pinned) is used and the web app gets a crappy modified icon with a Chrome icon superimposed over it.
Presumably if Firefox switches to the Pinned Shortcuts API it will get similar. Not sure if WebAPK is available to third party browsers as Google has to sign the APKs?
Add to homescreen seems to have been removed in Nightly at the moment, is that correct?
