I'm not sure it's the same, it's not sluggish, the whole FF completely freezes. It can happen instantly when you open FF and WhatsApp web (I don't think it loads whole thread right away), so it's not about length. Can be an extension of the issue. Tested on several hardware (8 thread Intel CPU and 16 thread AMD CPU), so irrespective of the hardware freezes for same period of time.
Tested on LInux 16.04 x 64 Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0
Build ID: 20170906220306 and after numerous tries, cannot reproduce the issue.
If you still have the problem, please:
- create a new profile, you have the steps here:https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager
- test if the issue can be reproduced in the safe mode of Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode
- see if this bug is reproduced on other browsers, like: Chrome, Internet explorer,Opera.
Thank you

The issue never existed in Chrome that I used before. I can't test on IE/Edge and I have not tried Opera.
Although, without changing anything, I think in recent builds the problem went away, I will keep monitoring the situation, but in last 2 days I have not faced it.

Can confirm I have been experiencing this as well since 57 and now on 58.0a1 (User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:58.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/58.0; build 20171016100113) on openSUSE Tumbleweed.
Firefox hangs for 5-10 seconds and then resumes as normal with no sluggishness.

If it helps, I have not experienced this issue on FF59 whatsoever.

I was unable to reproduce this issue on Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64 bit and Firefox Nightly 61.
Here's the Performance Profile: https://perfht.ml/2HNTIy6
I'll close this for now.
