I think that with the recent split of the log persistence preference + move of the checkbox to the console UI, we lost the ability to toggle persistent logs for the old console frontend?

The new console frontend is not riding the trains yet, so we should probably keep some UI to enable this pref. Maybe keep a checkbox in the devtools options (and maybe only show it if using the old console frontend?).

I was wrong here, the new frontend rides the trains with 57 and the preferences file should be updated soon to make sure the pref is turned on for all channels.
