Add state to preferences window

Details
It would be very nice and convenient for users if the preference tree in the
preferences window remained in the prior state that the user left it in when
they clicked 'ok'.
Currently, the tree is stateless, which requires users to reiterate the
navigation motions necessary to alter their most commonly accessed preference
settings.
