User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0
Build ID: 20171016185129

Steps to reproduce:

I've recently switched from Chrome to Firefox 57. Mostly this change has been smooth and a direct improvement, but there is one bug that's really irritating me. I generally watch about 90 minutes of YouTube per day, and sometimes (maybe once every 4 days) this crashes my computer.

Because it's a BSOD I think it might be hardware specific. Here's my PC's specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1800X
GPU: GTX 1080Ti
RAM: G.Skill Trident Z F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2 @2933MHz
SSD0: Samsung 960 Evo 1TB
SSD1: Samsung 850 Evo 2TB

I've looked at the Basic Troubleshooting guide (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems). Restarting my PC doesn't really make sense, because the crash does that for me. Tried clearing cookies and cache. Haven't tried safe mode yet, I'll give that a go later. It's a brand new Firefox installation and profile, so I don't think refreshing/reinstalling will help.

Actual results:

During a crash, the first thing to happen is that the video freezes. The audio continues playing, but the picture stops moving. About 2-3 seconds after that, I can no longer move the mouse. 20-30 seconds later, the audio stops. 2-4 minutes later, I get the BSOD. (I've also reproduced this on Windows 10 Insider Build, where I get a Green Screen Of Death)

The STOP Code is DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. When I turn my PC back on after, Event Viewer has an item saying "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000133 (0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000000001e00, 0xfffff800f788d370, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: abe2fac6-6144-4fcf-b54c-4f8ccfc9e62a."

I never encountered this issue in Chrome, so I think it must be a Firefox bug.

Expected results:

Video playback should continue un-interrupted.
BSOD is typically caused by an old, rogue graphics driver. Please make sure you have the latest graphics driver: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

Good suggestion, I checked and I already have the latest graphics driver (387.92)

I'm disabling h/w acceleration now, I'll see if the issue persists.
If you check the .dmp file it should indicate which file(s) are implicated in the BSOD. This will give you an idea if it's related to the GPU driver or something else altogether. I've seen similar reports of this in the past that have ranged from other third party software being the cause (such as Antivirus) or a bug in a wifi driver.
Thanks, I'll check that next time it crashes as currently I don't seem to have a MEMORY.DMP file. What's the best tool to open this file, just a text editor?

Btw I had to re-enable h/w acceleration as without it SoundCloud audio was stuttering.
Sounds like a driver reset, eventually leading to a BSOD. Bug 1403091 mentions going back to an older driver, version 385.41 making things better. And you're right, turning off acceleration isn't really a solution as it leads to bad user experience.
Just so that we have the consistent information, a graphics section out of about:support would be very useful to us.

Haven't reproduced it for a while, but I haven't (to my knowledge) updated anything. Next time I reproduce the bug I'll look in MEMORY.DMP and also try downgrading my graphics driver. In the meantime, here's the graphicsdata from about:support:

I had hoped that this was caused by Spybot S&D, which was giving me some errors ocassionally. I uninstalled it a week ago but today I experienced this crash again.

I installed WinDbg and looked in the crashdump, and it seems nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA driver) is responsible. The crash doesn't happen in Chrome though, so not sure what's going on.
