Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0 Build ID: 20171102181127 Steps to reproduce: Open multiple tabs in Firefox 57. Actual results: The Close Tab buttons are no longer visible. To close a Tab, a user must first click on it to make active, then click Close Tab button. Very annoying if frequently required, slows down browser use sharply. Endless headache. Expected results: On mouse hover, any Tab regardless of its size should show Close Tab button. Clicking on it would close the Tab. Very intuitive, enhances productivity, simplify browser use, makes it feel smarter, more modern.
Summary: Close Tab button hidden in multitab browsing → Close Tab buttons disappear on Tabs Toolbar when multiple tabs are open
Alternatively, Close Tab button should replace Favicon on a Tab mouse hover on the Tabs Toolbar. Without this bug fixed using Firefox requires twice more clicks for no good reason, making it a lot less attractive to use.

Resolution: --- → DUPLICATE
This is not a duplicate of previous bug reports. None of them suggested to substitute Favicon button with Close Tab button on mouse hover in Tabs Toolbar. This particular solution would eliminate high errors rate in closing a narrow tab that was claimed to be a reason to hide Close Tab buttons on narrow Tabs, because Favicon buttons are located on the left, and are always visible even at minimal Tabs width. Also, if an issue was looked at in the past and resolved one way, its doesn't mean similar issue can't be looked at again in the future and resolved another way. In fact, the entire Firefox browsers is under comprehensive rebuild right now, including all its controls and UI, so its the right time to look again at features repeatedly asked for by Firefox users, and denied exclusively because they were reviewed in the past.
Of course substituting Favicons button with Close Tab button should only be done on narrow Tabs, when Close Tab button becomes invisible.
I request to reopen and objectively review this bug. Pls read my proposal, its very different. This bug was NEVER resolved in the past. And now everything that was "resolved" in the past is replaced in new Firefox with entirely new solutions. So its definitely the right time to have this bug actually resolved instead of denial. Denying a reasonable solution is not equivalent to resolution, but instead to conservation of the same problem. That drastically compromises new Firefox image, and objectivity of such "resolutions" that amount to nothing. May be some people in charge of these "resolutions" should be replaced to have a fresh look at the original problem?
