I think the toolbars should show to provide feedback the URL is loading.
Maybe it is a Pavlov's dog thing, but as a user I am expecting more feedback that a link has been followed and is loading.
Alternatively, the top of the screen could show just the progress bar (which is just a few points high) to indicate something is happening.

I'm not sure I understand this. I see a stand in tab, called "Open in New Tab", and when I tap in that I see the page loading in with a toolbar.
One obvious imporvement is to utilizes the 2 dot loading animation used in Desktop Firefox, on the stand in tab.

I added a video. When I open a bg tab, I see no feedback in the UI.

Showing the toolbar in the iPad when the action is performed will solve this
