User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.10; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0
Build ID: 20171112125346
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open any webpage containing JPG’s
2. Drag and drop a JPG-image to the desktop
Actual results:
- The JPG is copied, but the .jpg-extension behind the name is not there
- The file’s icon is a generic document icon, not a preview
Expected results:
- The JPG is copied to the desktop, with the name containing the extension .jpg
- The file’s icon is a small preview of the actual image
Note:
- PNG’s and TIFF’s don’t have the issue.
- Using ’Save image as…’ in the contextual menu works normal, without the issue.
- Putting the .jpg extension in manually changes the JPG back to normal.
- Before FF 57 I didn’t have this problem.

I used https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Example.jpg and Drag and Drop to the Desktop worked as expected with Firefox57 and OSX 10.9.5 (I'm about to update the OSX version)
Reporter: This may depend on the server, do you also get the missing extension on the Wikipedia page ?

Yes.
I did some more testing with the same page:
In Safe Mode:
- the issue occurs
With a fresh new profile:
- the issue doesn’t occur
Note that bug 1418073 concerns Firefox 56 and a different MacOS (10.13).
