Steps to reproduce:

enter YouTube.com in adress bar, hit enter key. Use Adblock Plus and New Tab override addons.


Actual results:

YouTube freezing for 5-20 seconds. Sometimes yellow message appears "a website is hanging, cancel loading now?"


Expected results:

Should behave like in FF 56

Might be a variant of Bug 1418290. Try disabling Accessibility Services: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/accessibility-services#w_how-do-i-disable-accessibility-services

I disabled it as shown, confirmed disabled after server restart. Issue is NOT fixed... Need help... Don't wanna go to Chrome (as they spy on URLs etc etc), so I will wait for a hotfix... -.-

Yeah, looks like layout thrashing inside some Polymer code that you're being served up.

Specifically, an "annotation effect" is attempting to access layout information very regularly (probably on requestAnimationFrame).

Ahaaaa, interesting Mike, when I switch back to the "old" YouTube design the issue isn't there (I was using the new YouTube design at https://www.youtube.com/testtube )... I will use YouTube's "old" design for now, hope the Firefox Dev team can fix this bug fast though! :)

Might be related to bug 1420176.  Does private browsing mode help?  The user over there suggests the problem might be YT trying to load a very large list of subscriptions.

In private browsing window (is that the mode you mean?) the problem is too. I have a lot of subscriptions which also load in "old" YouTube design, but the problem is only in the new youtube design, Ben. I will write in the other bug report too.

The old youtube did not use a polymer polyfill which may behave differently for this use case.

You are right!!! When NOT logged in but using the new design, the problem doesn't occur in normal browsing mode! Must be related to subscriptions then or sth. else when logged into YouTube...

How many YouTube channels are you subscribed to? 

The JS code in YouTube's polymer queries image sizes in a rAF. I'm not able to reproduce the multi-second hang but perhaps there needs to be many more YT channels before it's noticeable. The real fix is for us to ship custom elements and shadow DOM and sidestep the slow polyfill.

Is it really only "frequently", not every user case with more than for example 500 subscriptions? I'd be surprised if others with many subscriptions don't have this issue using "Polymer"...

YouTube has followed up in private mail they are working on the issue.  Please keep in mind many in the US are just coming back from a major holiday which can cause some delay.

I can indeed confirm that this also occurs with 560 subscriptions.

At least they’re cropped to 7 entries by default now, so this now only occurs when explicitly clicking on the “∨ Show 553 more” button.
