User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0 Build ID: 20171112125346 Steps to reproduce: After closing Firefox with approximately 320 tabs open, I reopened Firefox and used Restore Previous Session. (Attempted three times over the last 2 days.) Actual results: Firefox produced all of my previous tabs, but immediately began consuming 95%+ of my memory, spread over five instances of firefox.exe appearing in the task manager: three instances using between 10 and 50 Mb, one instances using between 3 and 8 Gb, and one instance using between 8 and 13 Gb (computer has 16 GB of RAM). During the first occurrence of this bug, only the tab Firefox restored onto was responsive (could click links, scroll up and down, etc), but no other actions were possible (clicking onto other tabs, opening new tabs, opening options/help/etc.) During the second and third occurrence, Firefox eventually fully loaded after 1-2 hours of processing, during which the computer was completely unusable to to nearly all available memory being consumed. On the third instance, I was able to monitor the memory usage: memory usage remained at 95%+ for nearly an hour, before gradually decreasing over the course of roughly a half hour to normal levels, at which point Firefox became usable and all tabs were loaded. If there is any other info I can provide that would be useful in tracking down this bug, please let me know, and I will try to provide it (as this bug is reliably replicable for me, unfortunately.)
Reporter: Have you tried if you can reproduce this issue with all your add-ons disabled? It's possible one of them is behaving pathologically based on the number of tabs... If you don't see this with all add-ons disabled, you can try re-enabling them one-by-one to see which add-on (or combination of add-ons) is the culprit. If this reproduces without the add-ons, can you try using the profiler from https://perf-html.io/ and share a perf profile via that site, posting the link here? Mike: is there anything else that would help track this down?

I'll test it with add-ons disabled tomorrow and report back.
I'm also interested in knowing what happens if you disable Accessibility access. You can do this by putting about:preferences in your URL bar, typing "access" in the search bar at the top of the preferences page, and checking "Prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser". If that works, we might want to know more about third-party software (anti-virus, accessibility, remote desktop, etc) that you might be running at the same time as Firefox when this problem occurs.

Eureka! When I disable Tab Session Manager (version 1.6.1), everything works fine. When I re-enabled it, my computer started choking again when I started to restore tabs. Anything else info I can provide?

Andreas, can you relay this to the add-on dev? > Anything else info I can provide? Not sure right now. Would be interesting to see if replacing the session store file you restore from with a "dummy" with all the urls and titles etc. replaced (for privacy) reasons reproduces, and if so, attaching that file. But the add-on dev is probably the best person to respond to this...

The developer replied that they will address the issue. We expect that to happen in the next update.
Much obliged for all the help!
Please turn off the following option in Tab Session Manager. "Save the session when window was closed" When this option is checked, the session is internally saved every time a tab is opened.

Can you debounce/throttle this so that the result isn't this bad if that option is ticked? The symptoms reported here are pretty bad...

I still have this issue in combination with Tab Session Manager, but it happens only after the crash that results in Restore Session dialogue on next startup (here's a screenshot I found online, because, for the life of me, I can't get it to crash that way now, https://prod-cdn.sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2018-01-30-17-17-05-633de4.png). The regular crash, after which the tabs are automatically restored, as well as the normal exit–startup routine (both with automatic and manual session restore setting) work just fine. So I was wondering if there's anything that the browser does differently under the hood when restoring a session from the Restore Session dialogue?
