there is no way to select part of a link's text

Details
I can't find a way to select part of the text of a link. When I drag the mouse
over a link, the entire link gets highlighted.
Another weird thing is that even after the text of the link gets highlighted,
the contents of the cut-and-paste clipboard doesn't change (even if I press
control-C).

start from the left or right side outside the link and mark it.
Copy works on win32...
