Unable to reproduce with or without the reporter's extensions. The memory report looks normal to me except for one spot: for one of the WebContent process, this is what is reported: 35.25 MB ── d3d11-shared-textures 0.00 MB ── gfx-d2d-vram-draw-target 3.15 MB ── gfx-d2d-vram-source-surface 0.00 MB ── gfx-surface-win32 0.00 MB ── gfx-textures 0.00 MB ── gfx-textures-peak 0.00 MB ── gfx-tiles-waste 0 ── ghost-windows 7,672.35 MB ── gpu-committed 0.00 MB ── gpu-dedicated 3,727.72 MB ── gpu-shared 114.17 MB ── heap-allocated 1.00 MB ── heap-chunksize 273.00 MB ── heap-mapped 3 ── host-object-urls 2.18 MB ── imagelib-surface-cache-estimated-locked 23.81 MB ── imagelib-surface-cache-estimated-total 0 ── imagelib-surface-cache-overflow-count 2.05 MB ── js-main-runtime-temporary-peak 8,521.02 MB ── private 6,839.41 MB ── resident 6,831.32 MB ── resident-unique 511.17 MB ── system-heap-allocated 0.00 MB ── tracelogger 11,553.35 MB ── vsize 132,035,471.56 MB ── vsize-max-contiguous
The only extensions I have running are is RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/reddit-enhancement-suite/), Imagus (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/imagus/), uBlock Origin (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/) and Header Editor (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/header-editor/). I disabled each one individually and it didn't seem to fix the issue, and it seems to be specific with Firefox because I tested in on Chrome, Edge, and IE11 but they didn't display the same issue.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
It looks like 7GB of gpu-commited in a web content process, that's pretty extreme.
Component: Untriaged → Graphics
Product: Firefox → Core
Summary: Huge memory leak when loading conuhacks.io → Over 7BG of gpu-commited when loading conuhacks.io
Whiteboard: [MemShrink] → [MemShrink:P1]
It seems to be caused by 2d canvas that uses DrawTargetD2D1. When the problem did not happen when skia or cairo was used for 2d canvas back-end. It was confirmed by modifying gfx.canvas.azure.backends pref.
I confirmed it with latest m-c on Windows 10.
During showing conuhacks.io, content creates huge amount of GradientStopsD2Ds. GradientCache held huge amount of GradientStops. The number rose more than 80,000 soon. The amount of GradientStops were huge even with skia or cairo. GradientStopsD2D consumes gpu resources, then gpu-committed became huge in direct2d1.1 case.

When I modified DrawTargetD2D1::CreateGradientStops() as to return nullptr. I did not saw the huge gpu-committed in about:memory.
(In reply to Sotaro Ikeda [:sotaro] from comment #8) > When I modified DrawTargetD2D1::CreateGradientStops() as to return nullptr. > I did not saw the huge gpu-committed in about:memory. gpu-committed, private, resident, resident-unique is very small when I modified DrawTargetD2D1::CreateGradientStops() as to return nullptr. It DrawTargetD2D1::CreateGradientStops() work as normal, gpu-committed, private, resident, resident-unique becomes very big.
One wired thing is that even after leaving conuhacks.io, "gpu-committed, private, resident, resident-unique" continued to consume huge memory.

:bas, can you comment to this bug and Comment 10?

Bug 1436848 might be similar bug.

Memory leak seems to be triggered by "mDC->CreateRadialGradientBrush()" in DrawTargetD2D1::CreateBrushForPattern(). https://dxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/gfx/2d/DrawTargetD2D1.cpp#1801 When its call was commented out. I did not saw memory leak.
Markus, do you know about the radial gradient cache in its current forms? If you don't, any idea who maintains that code now?

I only know about gfxGradientCache, but comment 12 makes me think that it's not responsible for this. Sotaro, can you check whether disabling caching in gfxGradientCache::GetOrCreateGradientStops entirely fixes this issue? For example, try replacing the whole body of gfxGradientCache::GetOrCreateGradientStops with "return aDT->CreateGradientStops(aStops.Elements(), aStops.Length(), aExtend);". (In reply to Sotaro Ikeda [:sotaro] from comment #14) > Memory leak seems to be triggered by "mDC->CreateRadialGradientBrush()" in > DrawTargetD2D1::CreateBrushForPattern(). > > https://dxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/gfx/2d/DrawTargetD2D1.cpp#1801 You say CreateRadialGradientBrush, but you link to a call to CreateLinearGradientBrush. Which one is it?

Which one is it? Sorry, the link was wrong. I said "CreateRadialGradientBrush".

It did not address the issue.
It looks like we made some progress identifying the issue and then this stalled out, David is there anybody who could work on this?

Thanks. Maybe. Vicky is this something your team could triage? (It is okay to bounce it back)

Markus, can you take a look?

Sotaro, do you know if this is still happening?

I tried the STR on 2 Win PC with latest nightly, the problem did not happen.
