Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.13; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0
Build ID: 20180103231032
Steps to reproduce:
Hello, here are my specs:
Firefox: Quantum 57
macOS: 10.13.1 (16G1036)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2015) CPU: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory: 8 GB 1867 MHz LPDDR3 GPU: Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB
Perf Profile: https://perfht.ml/2F55p1I
Video: https://youtu.be/rLVVQBt8PuA (Hopefully you can see this, it's in the process of being uploaded, but YouTube generated a URL where my video is supposed to be)
Steps
1) Open Firefox
2) Browse to YouTube
3) Open up another tab
4) Browse as normal
5) Watch system hang, CPU spike, battery drop, and feel laptop heat up
Actual results:
System usage spiked, and the battery life (as usual) tanks.
Expected results:
System usage should be...normal? I'm sorry, I'm fairly new to reporting bugs.
I'm away from my charger from about 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and I can't use Firefox because it just mauls my battery life, versus Safari.

Hi Jason, thank you for the report!
Would it be possible for you to try Nightly ( http://nightly.mozilla.org/ ) and verify if the same high CPU usage and battery utilization happen there?
Thank you!

Hi!
Just wanted to update you: Since switching to nightly, my battery life has gotten much, MUCH better, and I don't feel my computer running as hot.
I'm on nightly 60.0a1, same hardware.
I can run another gecko profile if that would help you, but just from a non-technical, qualitative view, the issue seems to be fixed.

That's a great news! I don't think a happy profile is needed, although it would be refreshing to stare at one as a break from all the bad profiles we see :)
I'll mark this bug as fixed then. Happy it's fixed for you!

Changing the status to WORKSFORME, since this looks resolved (at least for 60), but we don't know why, or what patch fixed it.
