Travial: Top right of hp.com, you can search HP, Compaq, or Both... HP is in an <abbr>. It's underlined right, just doesn't have a tooltip like in other places on the page.

Can't confirm this. It works for me on the page mentioned as it does on my own pages where I often use <abbr>. Mozilla 1.1b+ 2002080508 Win and 1.1a 2002071004 Linux.
Crazy thing works now. *shrug*. WFM
