If I have a html file encoding as gb18030 or UTF-8 which contains surrogate
character(s), the surrogate character(s) will be displayed correctly in
browser/composer window, also in tab title, but is displayed as "??" for one
surrogate character.
It may related to bug 9449, but the problem here is on native OS.

This seems a dup of bug 9449, this kind of problems should not relate to OS
locale.

After bug 9449 checked-in, the surrogate character still can not be displayed
properly in window's title bar, although there is no more "?".
Re-open based on the above result.

how is IE?
The surrogate characters can not be displayed correctly even inside browser
window on IE.

The surrogate title is displayed same as in IE, so if our code are using some
code from MS windows, then this should be a MS problem.
The surrogate title in this test case is displayed fine on Mac 10.1.5 when I add
surrogate fonts.
I think both roy and me are off mozilla for more than 2 years. If these bugs are
still here now, I think the real stauts is 'won't fix'. If you want to reopen
it, please find a new owner for it first.

This screen I believe shows the same problem in Firefox 1.0.4 with a Shift_JIS
page. Although the tab correctly displays the Japanese characters, the Firefox
window shows boxes instead of the characters. IE 6.0 also shows boxes only.
This is in Windows XP Pro SP2.

This is not our bug but a Windows issue. You may tweak your font ('linking')
configuration for the windows title bar to include a font that covers non-BMP
characters.
