From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.0rc1) Gecko/20020417 BuildID: i cannot see it (the version is Mozilla RC 2) because Mozilla crashed before opening the browser When I started Mozilla RC 2 after I had copied it on my disk, the text in the startup window was registering something (I have forgotten what exactly was standing there). Over a few minutes nothing happened. In my CPU-Monitor showed that my CPU is doing nothing and my disk did also nothing (I hear it when it is doing something). After that I quited Mozilla through the menu "Mozilla". When I am starting Mozilla now, the text in the startup window is "Starting up..." and for minutes my computer is doing nothing, so I quit Mozilla RC 2 again over the menu "Mozilla". Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start Mozilla RC 2 under Mac OS X Actual Results: In the text in the startup window means "Starting Up..." but nothing happen. Expected Results: Come up?? I have "LCARStrek" and a several other themes installed (for RC 1), which aren't compatible with Mozilla RC 2.
A similar thing happened to me, but with Windows 98SE! I installed RC2 over my (correctly working) RC1. Install was OK. Then, the install program tried to start Mozilla. The Splash screen with the nice dragon showed up, then nothing else happened. I had to kill Mozilla (Ctrl-Alt-Del, terminate Program, wait a few seconds for the "Application does not answer" screen, hit kill again). Rebooting/Restarting did not help. Waiting a few minutes (could have been that Mozilla is not hanging but only very slow) did not help. Installing RC1 again did work.
This sounds like the recurring problem with incompatible themes...
Have you folks tried making a new profile? RC1 -> RC2 worked for me with the standard Modern theme, same profile.
David: thank you, you pointed me into to right direction. I thought that this shouldn't be the problem since the "classic" theme, which comes with Mozilla, was active on my system. But it seems that wasn't enough: I had to *uninstall* (i.e. delete) all incompatible themes. Now I am able to start RC2. There still seems to be something broken, by the way: Mozilla identifies the "Modern" theme as old and incompatible, so I cannot choose it, but I also cannot delete it?... David, do you know the numbers of the bugs which are about this? So, if this bug goes away for FK, too, when deleting his other profiles, we can probably close this bug as duplicate of whatever-the-bug-number-is...
Thank you! Mozilla RC2 is running now! :-) I had to delete all aditional themes. After that RC 2 startet normaly.
Thanks ! ->wfm

I think that the resolution WFM is not adequate here. Instead, it should be marked as a dupe of the bug describing the hang on startup of new Mozilla versions in the case that any themes are installed (if such a bug number exists). If *no* such bug number exists, then this bug should be kept open, since this is a very annoying behaviour which should be fixed. Truck loads of Joe Users are going to encounter it.
Wolfgang Kronberg: we Don't support corrupt profiles and/or problems with third-party Themes in new builds
verified (should be dupe of 144027)
