User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 Build ID: 20180210100316 Steps to reproduce: Load stream with fast chat (like https://www.twitch.tv/riotgames ). Wait 30-60 seconds, then try to scroll up chat part of a page, "More messages below" appears. Actual results: Chat is still scrolling, new messages appearing. Expected results: Chat should pause and do not show new messages until "More messages below" is clicked.

With https://www.twitch.tv/ninja, Adam and I can reproduce the bug *sometimes* in Chrome and in Firefox.

Whiteboard: [needsdiagnosis]
Happens to me with Firefox, but not with Chrome. Happens also only with live streams and not VODs.
Tested again in two different versions of Firefox (60 & 62). Was able to reproduce it only once out of 10 times. Not clear what is causing that to happen. When you see this issue, does refreshing the page fix it? How often do you encounter it?

Happens to me all the time, i.e. always. Also tried disabling tracking protection. Should try without NoScript once, though. Although temporarily allowing the complete page does not fix the issue.

This is a bug in Twitch.tv's code and they only fixed it with a hack in Chrome. This is not a Firefox bug but is forcing me to use Chrome instead. If this gets an intervention fix it would be highly appreciated. There seems to be no reason for them to fix this. Bug has existed for 6 months now.

https://github.com/FrankerFaceZ/FrankerFaceZ/issues/433 for more information.

As a matter of fact, this bug seems to have existed for at least a year.

The issue has been closed there.

Is this still happening on twitch?
if yes did someone tried to contact them?
and here the code for fixing it?

Flags: needinfo?(20dollarpill)

The bug was closed there with a "wontfix" because it was twitch bug.

It was a bug with Twitch.tv's scrolling code, which Chromium somehow handled correctly, but Firefox didn't:

The chat scrolling behaviour in Firefox 75.0 is exactly the same as Google Chrome 81.0.4044.129 now: The chat scroll pauses until the message scrolls away to the top, which is normal behaviour.

So to answer your questions:
Is this still happening on twitch? No
if yes did someone tried to contact them? Not that I know of
and here the code for fixing it? It was fixed on Twitch's end, because it works now even without the FrankFaceZ extension.

The Firefox extension that fixed the issue was also removed, because it's no longer needed:
