Closing and showing a modal to do what is ostensibly a UITableView-style navigation should instead be a slide-in navigation in the same view. This might also help address getting back from the tools menu to the top PAM. Technically, the difficult part is smoothly resizing the container view while doing a UINavigationViewController slide-in navigation.
