Is there likely to be any progress on this? I'm having to use an ancient, insecure version of Firefox so I can continue to use Adobe's plugin.

DPI resolution in printing matters a lot. You will need at least 300 DPI to print the photo-sized images. You should try the 300x300 DPI photos. I got the same issue while sublimating the mug and got the answer at this website post https://printartisty.com/best-sublimation-printer-for-mugs
