Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0
Build ID: 20170926190823
Steps to reproduce:
In Linux (KDE, openSUSE Tumbleweed) Firefox opens all downloaded files by Ark (archive app) while other applications associated with correspondent files' extensions. And no way to fix this. FF58.
Expected results:
Files should be opened with programs associated in DE settings.
Hi Aleksey,
Is this reproducible in newer versions of Firefox?

Do not know: some addons do not work in newest version, so do not want to upgrade.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0
I have tested this issue on OpenSUSE, Debian and LinuxMint x64 with the latest Firefox release (59.0), Firefox Release (56.0) and the latest Nightly (61.0a1-20180315223216) and haven't managed to reproduce the issue.
When downloading a zip file and choosing to open with the associated application, the file is correctly opened with the corresponding application.
Can you please retest this using a new clean Firefox profile, maybe even safe mode? In this way we could eliminate any custom settings as a possible cause (https://goo.gl/AR5o9d).

Open zip with Ark is correct in KDE, however open other extensions there is weird. Now seems opens correctly. Will test more, and back to you with more detailed info.
Found one: *.md should be opened by Kate by KDE and FF settings, however opened by Ark by default - weird. Could be kmozillahelper or KDE bug?

Yesterday tried to open MIcrosoft Work document. Default app for it in FF settings - Libre Office Writer. Also proposed to open it for me in Ark.

The situation with file handling on Linux may have been improved by bug 1427700.
Given the change in behavior above, and that this report is for Firefox 56 specifically (which won't receive any further updates), I'm closing this bug. If the issue persists with a recent Nightly build on a new profile, feel free to file a new report.
