User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 Build ID: 20180322152034 Steps to reproduce: 1. Update to Firefox 60 2. Browse the web Actual results: Firefox freezes every few seconds for around 2 seconds. Freezes even with one tab opened but worse with more. Not all websites freezes but many do. (95%) This one here doesn't for example. Youtube especially. Expected results: Everything should run smooth like in Firefox 59
Also it gets worse the longer I use the browser. After restart it works fine again for some time.
I'm also seeing this. Firefox restarted after upgrading to 60.0b7 (~3 hours ago) and I haven't noticed it since. I don't know if it's fixed or if it's because Firefox was restarted. I'll update this if I notice the issue, again.
Hi Rex, I verified this issue on Windows 10 64bit with FF 61.0a1 (2018-03-27) (64-bit) and I cannot reproduce it. Please test if the issue is reproducible in safe mode, here is a link that can help you: https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Procedures-to-diagnose-and-fix/Troubleshoot-Firefox-issues-using-Safe-Mode/ta-p/1687#w_how-to-start-firefox-in-safe-mode. I the issue is still reproducible, please download Firefox Nightly from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/ and retest the problem. If you still have the issue please create a new profile, you have the steps here:https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager
Sorry Daniel I still have the issue. I couldn't reproduce it in safe mode, probably because I don't have all my addons talking space. Though I still had the freezes when deactivating all addons. I wasn't able to test anything as I have been on vacation last week. I will try the other procedures soon. I think though it has something to do with ram usage. It went up more on and more the longer I used the browser.

could you try to capture and share a performance profile while you're observing the freezes? https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Performance/Reporting_a_Performance_Problem

Base on comment 6 I will mark this as WFM. Please feel free to reopen this issue if you can reproduce it with the latest FF version.

I experience this issue with Firefox 70.0 which I installed recently from the official Archlinux repo.

Observed behavior: firefox freezes for about 3 seconds with varying intervals between freezes (the intervals vary between 3-10 seconds, but most of the time they're about 3 seconds). The easiest way to reproduce this for me is to play any Youtube video and look at the time counter of the video, you'll see that the video freezes sometimes, and by the seconds counter you can tell for how long it freezes. I also have this problem with other websites, for example I experience these freezes right now when I type the comment. Despite freezes Firefox seems to react to my key presses and mouse actions, but updates the screen output only when it unfreezes. For example, if I type something into an input field on a webpage during such a freezing my output appears when firefox unfreezes. This freezing also affects the "loading" animation on the tab, i.e. the webpage content isn't the only part of the window which is affected.

What is interesting is that I updated to the 70.0 version yesterday, but didn't notice any freezes until now. I could reproduce this behavior on a newly created user profile as well (executed firefox -P and created a new profile).

The most unusual thing is that freezing stops and firefox window starts reacting to user input smoothly as usual, when I try to record a screencast (with byzanz-record tool). After the screencast recording is stopped the freezing starts again with usual intervals. This is why I can attach a screencast to this comment.

Sorry, there is a typo in that message. I can not attach a screencast.

I just realized that the firefox isn't the only application which freezes. It must be an X11 issue. Sorry for false alarm, please ignore my previous report.
