Adam, are you still actively working on this?
Not actively yet, I plan to get back into update diffs (bsopt and Courgette) in early-ish 2019.

I never did get back to this, and a lot of the improvements I was seeing were not reliable across different builds over time. I think it'd be better to resolve this for now.

Edited to remove a link to the repo, I had forgotten what a mess it was in, I'm not sure if it even compiles in the current state.
