[Affected versions]: Nightly 61.0a1 [Affected platforms]: Ubuntu 16.04 x64 [Prerequisites]: Set pref gfx.downloadable_fonts.otl_validation = false [Steps to reproduce]: 1.Launch Nightly 61.0a1 with a new profile 2.Open https://www.axis-praxis.org/specimens/amstelvar [Expected result]: The space between letters should be consistent.(as in Chrome) [Actual result]: The space between letters is too small on some font (please see the attached screenshot)
I believe this is a symptom of the old FreeType version installed on Ubuntu 16.04. I am intending to disable variation-font support on such old versions, because of issues like this and bug 1450057. Because of this, could we move Linux testing to a newer distro? Or (perhaps simpler) install an updated FreeType library -- see http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2017/06/install-freetype-2-8-in-ubuntu-16-04-17-04/.
Depends on: 1451296
I could not reproduce the issue on Ubuntu 16.04 x64 using the latest Nightly 61.0a1 with FreeType version 2.8.1. I will close this bug as Resolved WFM.
