Details
Installation of Mozilla destroys Outlook 98 installation. It also happened with previous versions of Mozilla. Complete Outlook had to be reinstalled after Mozilla installation. After that Mozilla is just capable of starting once. This is new for this particular version RC2. If you close it and try to reopen it doesn't start anymore. Restart of OS necessary. (For several reasons I have to use Outlook...) Thank you Best regards Tilo

Do you set Mozilla as default Mail application ?

It seems to be somewhat like a presentation effect. I explicitly set Mozilla Mail as my default email client now but it doesn't remember when I restart Mozilla (the checkbox is unset again after restarting Mozilla). But however now it can be restarted after closing without rebooting. The difference maybe was that I used Outlook this morning before Mozilla was started. Thanks & regards Tilo

I have to update my bug report. Unfortunately my Outlook installation is destroyed again. It has something to do with defining Mozilla Mail as the default email client. Outlook start stops with the error message "Cannot start Outlook. Mapi32.dll is corrupt or the wrong version. This could have been caused by installing another messaging software. Pls. reinstall Outlook." It is no workaround for me to just kick Outlook. It must be able to run side by side. Thank you. Regards Tilo

Tilo, Outlook has its own version of mapi32.dll which is different than the smart mapi32.dll distributed by Microsoft along with its newer version of Outlook Express. This is a known problem, u cannot use earlier versions of Outlook which has the old version of mapi32.dll along with Mozilla set as default mail client. However you can get the new version of mapi32.dll which can take care of this issue. Go to your windows system32 directory and see if you have an exe by the name of 'fixmapi.exe', run this exe. Now you can use both Outlook and Mozilla simultaneously. Tilo, Please let us know how did this go.

Started "fixmapi.exe" and it's working fine now. Thanks a lot. Tilo

Last days I followed the hint to start fixmapi.exe and everything worked fine again. But there must be more problems. When I reinstall MOZILLA 1.0RC2 there is the same problem with the mapi dll and it cannot be fixed using the fixmapi.exe. Again I had to reinstall OUTLOOK. It was just a test of me whether the problem can be really fixed by the fixmapi.exe but obviously it cannot. Thank you. Tilo

The deletion of the Outlook mapi.dll is what bug 125830 deals with. The fix is not yet checked in. Re-resolving as dup. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 125830 ***

I donot think this problem is related to 125830. The bug 125830 was more related in earlier builds of MAPI, the ones before April 02, at that time the Set Mozilla as default was getting called without the user's decision to make Mozilla as the default using the preferences. The code design has changed now completly, Mozilla is now set as default only when it is made the default client. This problem is something different, having to do with Outlook i guess since if you use fixmapi.exe (a microsoft program) it should fix Outlook whatsoever. See the below link to the MSDN documentation : http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/mapi/html/_mapistub__installing_or_restoring_the_mapi32.dll_stub.asp Needs more investigation so reopening the bug.

Tested case with exact setup, and cannot duplicate. Since this was reported against 1.0RC2, I would call this bug invalid, as whatever the problem was has apparently been fixed (using 1.0 and 1.1 both fails to duplicate this problem).
