User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0 Build ID: 20180310025718 Steps to reproduce: Open Firefox, Open sidebar with bookmarks Actual results: The bookmark file shows duplicate folders and entries. Cannot delete duplicates because they are linked and deleling one deletes all. Tried steps such as working on places file, exporting and reimporting, etc. Places Maintenance no longer compatible with firefox version. I have worked on this for days, I am about ready to give up on firefox altogether. Expected results: Bookmarks should not have duplicate entries.
Please open about:support and "Places Database" section press "Verify Integrity" button and paste here results.

Can you attach a screenshot of the folder hierarchy please? My suspicion is that you've duplicated one of the root folders that has created additional shortcuts.

I will try to do a screen shot,it will be a partial view of the bookmarks, as they do not all fit on one page. However, I am having a problem with getting a screenshot here. If I use Firefox screen shot, it does not include the bookmark side bookmark list. If I use the snipping tool from windows, it saves it as .jpg, and copy and paste does not work trying to put a ,jpg here. Suggestions, please?
Ok, instead of a screen shot, here is a manual show on how it looks: Bookmarks Toolbar Bookmarks Menu Bookmark Toolbar 01 Personal 02 Hobbies ...etc Other bookmarks Bookmarks Menu Bookmark Toolbar 01 Personal 02 Hobbies ...etc Bookmarks Menu Bookmark Toolbar 01 Personal 02 Hobbies ....etc. If I delete an entry anywhere, they all get deleted everywhere. Please let me know if this is not enough.
(In reply to Piera Kelley from comment #5) > Ok, instead of a screen shot, here is a manual show on how it looks: Thanks, good idea, that's helpful. > Bookmarks Menu > Bookmark Toolbar > 01 Personal > 02 Hobbies > ...etc > Other bookmarks > Bookmarks Menu > Bookmark Toolbar > 01 Personal > 02 Hobbies > ...etc > Bookmarks Menu > Bookmark Toolbar > 01 Personal > 02 Hobbies > ....etc. > > If I delete an entry anywhere, they all get deleted everywhere. Please let > me know if this is not enough. You might want to backup your bookmarks, first: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them Once you've done that, try deleting one of the "Bookmarks Menu" folders under "Other Bookmarks", i.e. right-click the "Bookmarks Menu" folder itself, and select "Delete". That should remove the duplication. You should be able to do it for the other "Bookmarks Menu" folder(s) under "Other Bookmarks" as well. They were possibly created by accidental drag and drop of the Bookmarks Menu folder to the Other Bookmarks folder.

Ok. I will try that. I'll see how it goes. Thanks.

All right! That worked, as it eliminated the duplicate headings. It scrambled the bookmarks themselves (many are showing up under the wrong headings, but I can deal with that! Thank you! I had been worried about deleting a whole heading, as deleting a single entry deleted it everywhere, but I guess the heading itself is treated differently! Appreciate your help. How do I mark this as solved?
We'll mark this as works for me, since this was a support issue. Though in future it is likely that those "duplicates" (aka shortcuts) will be indicated differently.
