User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.12; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0 Build ID: 20180323154952 Steps to reproduce: I was scrolling. I have trouble using narrow scrollbars, and can't widen them (a MacOS limitation), so I disable smart scrolling, and use special software (Scroll+), with the middle mouse button to scroll. Actual results: Suddenly Firefox switched to zooming. It is intermittent and unpredictable, so I don't know how to reproduce it. Expected results: Firefox should continue scrolling...
Hello, Could you please provide more details about the Scroll+ software? In order to reproduce this issue we'll need to test it using the same conditions. An official page of the software would be great. Thank you.

http://marcmoini.com/splus_en.html I think it emulates a scroll wheel, but without the tendon-tearing and pain.

Ruling out other possibilities: I don't think modifier keys are involved. The bug would start suddenly, while scrolling, not while using the keyboard. I have coordination problems, so I never use keyboard and mouse at the same time. I use Sticky Keys. The Mac version of Sticky Keys shows active modifier keys on the screen, and the bug occured without any active.
I wasn't able to test this based on the fact that I don't have the proper environment. Kats can you please take a look at this and tell us your opinion? Thanks

I sent an email to the Scroll+ support email address to see if I can find out more about how that software works and what kinds of input events it might be sending to Firefox. If that approach doesn't work the other option would be to create a custom Firefox build that logs the input events it's receiving and have Marja run it with the Scroll+ software until the issue is reproduced, and then we can look at the log to see if it's an issue with FF's handling of inputs, or the inputs being generated by Scroll+ I'll park the bug with me for now.

Got a response from the author (excerpt below): ======= Thanks for letting me know about this. I suppose what is happening is that Scroll+ does not ask for the event flags to be cleared, when it generates the scroll wheel events, because at the time I assumed they would be zeroed by the OS. It turns out this is not always the case. This new version of Scroll+ should solve the problem, if you would please be so kind as to pass it along to the person who has been having the issue: http://marcmoini.com/Scroll+1.0.2.zip ======= Marja, can you try this new version of the software and see if you still run into the problem?

Yes, I have installed the new version, still still encounter the same problem.

From the author: ======= My impression is there is some other software involved. To check for this, please ask the user to try running Smart Scroll instead of Scroll+ for a while. It will provide the same features but unlike Scroll+ which Apple doesn’t let me update on their Mac App Store, Smart Scroll has received a lot more work these past few years. http://marcmoini.com/sx_en.html If the problem still occurs with Smart Scroll, I will take that to mean some other software is interfering, because no one has reported this issue with Smart Scroll. Also you may want to ask the user to contact me directly, since this most likely has nothing to do with Firefox. ======= Based on this I'm inclined to resolve this as invalid; please follow-up with the Scroll+ author. You can find the email address at http://marcmoini.com/support.html

I don't have Smart Scroll so can't compare it with Scroll+.
Also, this bug still crops up. And I'm not the only one affected. Although I've been injured by certain common scrolling tools, and it's hard reading about people using those tools. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2634617
Sorry, I can't help you with this. Email the Scroll+ author; if he diagnoses it as a Firefox bug we can look into it.
