From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0rc2) Gecko/20020510 BuildID: 2002051006 This is the first time I am playing with tabbed browing. And I finally found a decent use for it. I'll describe the way I use it, plus a couple of things that can help improve the experience. My scenario: I open a new link in a tab when the link is pointing to something closely related to the document I am already reading. I open interesting links that are not related to current subject in a new window rather than a new tab. So sometimes I have a doc open with many tabs. I have two wish items: 1. I want to "save" or "bookmark" this entire set of tabs so I can get this state back if I have to break now, & might have to continue on it tomorrow night. 2. OK - I finally have 10 tabs open in a window. I will eventually read probably only 3 of them - I opened them because link in original doc sounded interesting, but after reading the first para I knew it's not for me. And I read tabs in arbitrary order - not necessarily left to right. After a while, I forget which tabs are the ones I've already looked at - I don't want to close them yet for some reason. So I would like to kind of "mark" a particular tab that I've read it - perhaps by right-click on tab. Marked tabs could give a visual cue - changed icon or color or something. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. See description.
1. Can be done already. Click on bookmarks | file bookmark and then check the 'file as group' box. You even create a new folder to file them in.
Thanks gabriel, but what is there is only a convenient way to bookmark all currently open tabs in one operation. There is no way to open them "as a group" later; I can open only one at a time.
Please keep issues to one per bug report. 1. As pointed out by Gabriel, it is possible to bookmark a group of tabs. Following the instructions in comment #1, will create an entry in your bookmarks containing all the tab pages open at the time of creating the group. Clicking on this entry will open all of those tabs again in a single operation. 2. This is a variation of the rfe in bug 133053(unread tabs should be styled differently (eg bold)).
Robert: 1. Agreed on 1 item per report. Sorry. 2. "Clicking on this entry will open all of those tabs again in a single operation": It doesn't work this way - at least in Mozilla 1.0 RC2 that I have. Entire set gets filed as a folder in bookmarks; I can open an individual entry but not whole page. Pl verify this before disputing again. 3. I am saying something a little different from "bug 133053" in my original item #2. Am posting comment on #133053 bug only.
manojd is particularly right. If you save the tab-group right on your personal toolbar or anywhere else in your bookmarks you can recall all in one step. But if you put this group in a folder in your personal toolbar (as I do since I've many groups which would clutter up the toolbar), klick on the folder, and you'll see no grouped bookmark but another folder with single bookmarks in it. So you can't open grouped bookmarks from within a folder on your personal toolbar. Strangely this works with the same grouped bookmarks in a folder using the bookmarks menu! I'd call this (case 1 of c0) a real (but trivial) bug, but no RFE.
Aha. Thanks Christian. So it works except when I file in "My Bookmarks" - which is where I always file my stuff. Just verified it indeed works if I file it on main toolbar. It indeed is only a bug, no major enhancement needed.
> It indeed is only a bug, no major enhancement needed. Ok, so we should it get assigned to some who's responsible for this component. Maybe you'd change the "Component", "Severity" and "OS" to it's appropriate values and also edit the Summary (since I can't to this as normal user and not being the reporter) to get it more interesting for the bughunters.
Severity: enhancement → normal
Summary: Wish: tabbed browsing experience can be improved → Tabbed browsing session cannot be filed under "My Bookmarks"
Manojd, yesterday I recognized, that I can't reproduce this behaviour anymore with actual builds (>= 20020617). It must have been fixed anywhere in between. Could you try in on your system?
Christian Eyrich: The bug is gone after I installed Mozilla 1.1 Alpha (Build ID: 2002061104) on my Windows 2000. I notice a new menu item under Bookmarks - "Bookmark this group of tabs..." - this is what I used this time. I also tried reproducing using Bookmarks -> File Bookmark with "Bookmark this group of tabs" checkbox set - bug is gone with this also.
Closing as wfm, per reporter's comments.
