Mozilla uses it's own mail client for handling mail even though Outlook Express is set as the default handler.

Details

Outlook Express is set as the system's default handler for mail and news. "Use Mozilla Mail as the default mail application" is set to unchecked. Outlook Express is set to check it's the default mail client every time it starts up and it doesn't complain (ie, it *IS* the default mail handler). Yet, when I click on a mail link in the Mozilla browser, it brings up the Mozilla Mail client and not Outlook Express. The machine on which the problem occured was initially running Mozilla 1.0rc1 without the Mozilla Mail component installed, thus, the problem did not arise. However this always happens with 1.0rc2 with the Mail component installed. Reproducible: Always
Correction: as seen from the build number report, the build in question is actually a fairly recent nightly and not 1.0rc2.

You can't use external Mail applications in Mozilla because bug 11459 is unfixed.
Product: Browser → Seamonkey
