Alex -- this sounds like it could be a regression in cubeb for specific hardware and/or driver. Can you have a look?

Actually the other version of about:support ("Copy raw data to clipboard") contains more information about the state of the devices. Sorry for asking the same thing but would be possible to provide that? From 59 to 60 the sandbox level increased from 4 to 5. Can you please revert back the sandbox level to 4 and check? In order to do that you need to go in about:config, find the pref: security.sandbox.content.level and change it to 4. Please do not forget to restart the browser after that. Let's see if the above provide an indication of the issue, otherwise we need to get logs. I will give you details about it later. Thanks

Thank you barry! Your device (Speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio) is reported and enabled which the correct. Did you have a chance to check the sandbox level in 60 and try to change it? In addition to the above would be possible to check with latest Nightly if the problem appears there?

Hi Alex I just don't the sandbox test there After changing it to 4, the audio started working :) I upgraded to 61.0b9 (64-bit) where the sandbox level remained in a modified state of 4 and the audio was still playing I reset this back to 5 and in 61.0b9 (64-bit), and after the audio no longer worked Cheers

This issue has been created due to the change of the sandbox level from 4 to 5. Can you please advice me what log to request or what steps to take in order to debug it further.

(In reply to barry from comment #12) > Hi Alex > > I just done the sandbox test there > After changing it to 4, the audio started working :) Thanks for taking the time to report this. The only change in the Windows content process sandbox from 4 to 5 is to use an alternate Desktop: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms682573(v=vs.85).aspx Do you know if you already use something similar in your setup? (We've had issues with that interfering with things before, although not for audio IIRC.) (In reply to barry from comment #14) > I tried increasing the sandbox level from 4 to 5 in firefox 59 and audio > still played This is really confusing, as this should give you the same sandbox policy and yet you don't get the audio problem. Did you restart the browser after changing the level? If you did, would you mind trying our mozregression tool to try and track down what broke this: https://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/ I tend to use mozregression-gui on Windows, you'd just need to ... * File->Run a new bisection * Accept the defaults on the first two screens of the wizard. * Select by release (right hand drop downs) 59 for the Last known good build and 60 for First known bad build. * Test each version of Firefox that starts and then select good or bad in mozregression-gui after closing the browser. It uses Nightly builds, so the sandbox level should always be 5 even if it starts a version of 59.

No, I'm not using any alliterative desktop (that i'm aware of anyway). I would be happy to provide you with a list of other installed software/hardware if that would be of help to you Yeah, I restarted my browser, And i tried it again(just to be sure) and in 59 i can still play audio with sandbox level 5 The results of the test are here https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/pushloghtml?fromchange=a6f5fb18e6bcc9bffe4a0209a22d8a25510936be&tochange=718e04535230d53a590b7dbb1a3cd983c259a622 It ran through 7 different browser tests and on all of them, Audio played

(In reply to barry from comment #18) > No, I'm not using any alliterative desktop (that i'm aware of anyway). I > would be happy to provide you with a list of other installed > software/hardware if that would be of help to you It seems unlikely at this stage but if it were other software, I think it would only be something to do with audio or possibly security software like anti-virus. > Yeah, I restarted my browser, And i tried it again(just to be sure) and in > 59 i can still play audio with sandbox level 5 > > The results of the test are here > https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/ > pushloghtml?fromchange=a6f5fb18e6bcc9bffe4a0209a22d8a25510936be&tochange=718e > 04535230d53a590b7dbb1a3cd983c259a622 > > It ran through 7 different browser tests and on all of them, Audio played Hmm, that looks like it's just gone all the way to the end of Nightly 60. I don't see anything in those changesets that are likely to have caused the issue. Could you try a couple of other things, please. First, would you try with a clean profile. If you run Firefox from a command prompt like this, it will open the profile manager, so you can create a new profile (Firefox should be installed in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\): firefox.exe --no-remote -P If that doesn't work would you try the latest Nightly build from here: https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-nightly-stub&os=win&lang=en-US By default it will be installed in C:\Program Files\Nightly\ from there you can run in the same way as above to use the test profile you created, to make sure you don't mess up your normal one.

(In reply to barry from comment #22) > This bug is still present in version 61 > Happy to provide more information I think you tested and got the same problem with 61 when it was in Beta, so I guess that's to be expected. You could try testing current Beta (62), which I think was working for you when it was in Nightly. If that works, it would be great to know what fixed this, but I think mozregression wasn't successful last time.

Question remains, though current beta is 65, so try that instead of 62.
