Currently, when sending URLs to the sharing system on macOS, we're sending along the full URL. This limits the available space for text substantially in some cases. We should use an URL shortener to maximize the available space for the user to add text. It'd be nice of the OS did this for us, but it doesn't, so we should step up. (Thank you for adding the Mac sharing feature, by the way -- I've been looking forward to it for ages, and am totally thrilled to have it now).
Hi Eric, I will mark this as an enhancement.
Severity: normal → enhancement
Component: Untriaged → Menus

Priority: -- → P5
This used to be a problem with e.g. Twitter, which had this problem (https://www.lifewire.com/make-short-urls-on-twitter-3476762), but I'd vote against automatic shortening at the Firefox side of things; especially as it creates another dependency when retrieving the link and some track users using the shortener (hence bad for privacy).
Severity: normal → S3
