From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BuildID: 20020510 Send on e-mail with an HTML attachment which in turn contains an applet. When trying to open the mail, the mailer crashes. This happens already when trying to select the mail. I don't even get to open the attachment. This seems to happen with any applet. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Send an e-mail with HTML attachment & applet 2. Try to open with e-mail reader Actual Results: Dialog pops up with a Plug In Exception. The actual contents of the dialog is not readable since the UI is frozen. When you run the JavaConsole, it'll show a java.net.MalformedURLException : unknown protocol : mailbox Expected Results: Open the mail. When selecting the attachment, the browser should pop up and tun the applet. I'm using the Java PlugIn 1.3.1_02. Is reproducible with older plug-ins as well. Netscape 4.x works fine. Happens on different Windows platforms (NT 4, 2000, XP)

Use the HTML page and send it as an attachment to the mail. In fact, this is only an example. The problem can be reproduced with any applet.

This screen dump shows the JavaConsole output when trying to open the mail. The dialog on the right says "Java Plug In Exception" but is frozen.

Does it also happen with JRE 1.4.0 ?

With Java 1.4 the problem doesn't seem to show up any more. However, the HTML attachments are inlined although the content-disposition explicitly says attachment. This is particularly annoying when having several attachments with different applets.
