A "success" page appears when the user completes login authentication in firefox.(see attachment) The prompt text is 'Still adding devices? Sign in to Firefox on another device to complete set-up'. According to the user feedback collected, it is easily misunderstood that if I want to complete the synchronization settings, I must download the mobile version of Firefox. In fact, we recommend that users download the mobile version in order to save the bookmark backup. I think we can highlight this purpose in the tip text. For example, change it to: Take Firefox with You. Get your bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings on all your devices.(reference firstrun page)

FWIW, I was also quite confused when I first saw this page start appearing and felt it could easily confuse users.

I agree that the copy is not ideal. Feeley was trying to display something that works in a wide range of context and flows where that message gets displayed. (on mobile and desktop) Feature doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1I2lspQj1x7AMIahM7PgcphnMSfLX-pJC_teru4HYaBs/edit#heading=h.qrbb2drvq5dg Feeley made it a question so that it would be passive and make it clear users had an option. I think we should keep that. IMO, the confusing part is "to complete set-up" which is in regards to signing-in when adding another device and not the current sign-in flow that users are in. I think that this will be a small copy change. Here are a couple of proposals: 1) When buttons are displayed, we should prob change it from 'Still adding devices? Sign in to Firefox on another device to complete set-up' to something like 'Still adding devices? Download here. Don't forget to sign in after install.' 2) When the SMS form is displayed, change it to: 'Still adding devices? Send Firefox directly to your smartphone for a quick install and login.'

This will get addressed in a more recent bug that has more activity.

This bug doesn't appear to be a duplicate since bug 1548331 is specifically Firefox for Android.
This bug also affects Firefox desktop users and is especially problematic for users who don't even have a smartphone. Examples:

Looks like this is being addressed in a newer bug. See bug 1602000 comment 2 Wil Clouser [:clouserw] 2019-12-13 11:46 EST
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We've fixed it in https://github.com/mozilla/fxa/issues/3597 which will go live in mid-January.

Thanks for filing this. This was addressed and we continue to iterate on the text and the flows since then too (now experimenting with app store badges and QR codes...)
