I am trying to import the contacts list from Outlook Express. Outlook Express
produces a tab-delimited text file with approximately 86 fields per record,
ranging from "First Name" through to "Notes". When I import the text file as an
address book in Mozilla Mail, one of the steps presents me with a two column
list with headers "Address Book field" and "Record data to import". The
instructions direct me to match the address book fields in the left column with
the correct data for import in the right column. However, the list only
displays data for 35 fields ("First Name" through "Work Phone 1") and ignores
data for the other 51 fields ("Work Phone 1 Ext" through "Notes").
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. From Outlook Express 5 select File -> Export Contacts...
2. Save file as "Contacts.txt" on Desktop.
3. From Mozilla Mail & Newsgroups, select Tools -> Import
4. Select Address Books and click next.
5. Select Text file and click next.
6. Open "Contacts.txt" from the Desktop.
Actual Results: The Import Record Data screen that appears presents a list with
record data items. Only 35 fields (rows) are displayed in the list, but the
Outlook Express contacts file has information for 86 fields. The data for
fields 36 and above are ignored by Mozilla Mail.
Expected Results: The list should display ALL fields in the contacts file
produced by Outlook Express (or any other mail program, for that matter).
It seems like only 35 fields are displayed because Mozilla Mail provides only 35
address book fields. However, there should be a method to map these 35 address
book fields to any number of fields (in the case of Outlook Express, about 86
fields) contained in a contacts import file. This may require some reworking of
the interface...
Martin, please attach a sample OE address book file containing one example
record (with fictional information).
Summary: Missing record data when importing address book from text file → Mozilla Mail doesn't import all fields exported by Outlook Express

The problem still persists with Mozilla 1.8a2. I have attached the file
samplecontact.txt with a single contact exported from Outlook Express for
further testing. Note that because the Email addresses begin at field 60, and
Mozilla address import only displays the first 35 fields, it doesn't currently
appear to be possible to import email addresses from Outlook Express.

Reporter, Can you confirm whether this problem is gone, or still exists on a current version of thunderbird?
