User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0
Build ID: 20180517113603

Steps to reproduce:

1) Create a Firefox Sync account
2) Try to connect a second device
3) Change the international prefix number (+XX) with another one.
4) insert the rest of the phone number
5) Click on "send" button.

Actual results:

The form becomes red and the description of the error is: "Invalid phone number"

Expected results:

It should accept phone numbers from countries different from the one identified by the IP address.
It should send a message to the phone number inserted.

Alex, do we deliberately restrict to numbers from the geolocation of the IP as a UX or security measure? I don't recall the details of why it is this way.

Alex, do we deliberately restrict to numbers from the geolocation of the IP as a UX or security measure? I don't recall the details of why it is this way.

No, we do it because it was the easiest to implement w/o trying to iterate through the list of countries to find a possible match. It was the easiest path forward to getting the feature shipped.

Just encountered this problem myself. While registering I'm only allowed enter a German number. +49 seems to be hardcoded. But I still use the mobile number I've used for 20+ years from another EU country. Roaming is free in the EU.

Thank you for filing this issue. This is not currently on our roadmap, and in an effort to focus our work, we are closing old issues that we are unlikely to be closed in the future. Thanks again.
