Proposal for new animation between modes.

It is best to do a fully animated mockup video before coding this up, as the timing of the animations is critical so as not to excessively delay the mode switching, but also provide the desired effect.

Another consideration is if there are iPad issues with this, as full-screen animations can be jarring on the iPad.
