Haven't really tried to run as root in newer editions.

Just unpack, run as root, exit, run as user.

Preferences work OK here.

OK also on Win32 (NT) version.

"+" and "-" do not expand/shrink the trees.
However, left and right arrows do work.

*NB:
 *In Win95 (file) Explorer, the four keys work; so I expect the same in Mozilla.
 *The four keys also work in NCv479: I would call this bug a regression.

Clicking on + does work.
See bug 130388 for +/- keys.

Neither "+" nor "-" (both regular or numpad) works for me :-(

Is your comment 6 "WFM" for Sun+Solaris only ? Or for W95/W2K too ?

Suggestions:
 *Block: add bug 135749.
 *Severity: Normal -> Minor; workaround = horizontal arrow keys.
 *Summary: make it more precise (keys, OS, ...).

It was for linux
You just can't open/close items with +/- keys on the keypad and that's basically
the same as in bug 130388 or bug 135749.
But original comment 1 says something else:
open preferences
click on +: no responce

and that's just works for me

Thanks for the explanation: I believe that you read "no response" +/- like
"hang" ? (I must have been misleaded by the current Summary "preferences don't
expand" !)

Anyway, disregard my comment 7 (and 5), which I'll reference in bug 130388 as
you indicated.
