Not a bug, but a feature:
While composing a new mail message you can insert a bitmap into an HTML Mail body.
Up to Netscape 4 the mail system was able to convert BMP's inserted via the
clipboard to jpeg files; drag and drop with BMP files produces only an href to
that, locally stored, file.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.open mail frontend
2.press <ALT>+<PRNTSCR>
3.compose new message
4.goto the mail body and try to insert from clipboard via <CTRL>+V
Actual Results: Nothing visible happens at all. Insertions via INSERT-GRAPHIC
works fine in the actual mail body.
Expected Results: Insert the clipboard graphic (BMP) or (like Netscape 4)
convert it to an arbitrary format like jpeg
This is not a bug, it's more a wish for an old feature comeback

Mozilla now has native bitmap support, does that help?

Native bitmap support does not help. Probably there are two different issues.
1. Clipboard: If you for example make a screenshot in Windows there is bitmap
data in the clipboard. Mozilla is not able to insert the bitmap with Ctrl+V.
Nothing happens. But something like this should happen: Attach the image to
the mail (and if bmp does not work, convert it automatically to something
like jpg) and display the image on the place where you inserted it using
Ctrl+V.
2. Drag & Drop: If you drag a file into the mail composer window something
different happens. If it is for example a jpg file the image is exactly
where you dropped it. This works fine.
If you drop a bmp-File into the window, instead of the image there comes
a link to the local file. Not very useful.

Agreed on the dupe, I don't know why that bug was added as a dependency.
Note that a patch for this problem, at least under Windows, resides in the
Aviary branch for TB. See bug 223909.
