1478226 - Video on SBS does not play at all after 'auto play' has been blocked via doorhanger

On sbs.com.au videos are by default set to start automatically once the player has been initialised. With the new doorhanger in Nightly where the user can set auto-play to false on a domain by domain basis, the videos don't play at all anymore, once the permission has been set to "Blocked".

Example (good show btw)

1) with latest nightly go to
https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video/1254453315795/counterpart-the-crossing

2) wait for the player to finish loading

3) when the doorhanger appears, click "Don't Allow", or hit "Esc" (bug 1473671)

4) reload the page, wait for the player, try to click the play button

For me nothing happened. Only when I removed the "Blocked" permission and (shift) reloaded the page, explicitly allowed auto-play (again, bug 1473671) the player would work again.

It seems to me that this is SBS website issue, because their player even shows the wrong icon when the website is blocked. They should show the 'play' icon instead of 'pause' when their play promise is rejected.

I assume that the video couldn't be played is becasue their JS code doesn't handle the internal logic properly.
