RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 780124

People

(Reporter: stephan, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/68.0.3440.106 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

If the mail server responds with SMTP code 420, Thunderbird drops the mail completely. It is fully gone, not pending, not in sent older, just fully lost.

I can help on testing.

Actual results:

Users do not realize that the mail is not sent and lost.

Expected results:

It should try again later, not lose the mail.
Summary: Mail most if server reports SMTP error 420 → Mail lost if server reports SMTP error 420
Component: Untriaged → Networking: SMTP
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core
Version: 52 Branch → 52
It is not version specific, I have seen this years ago, but only now was able to track it down to what exactly happened.
We know this problem, but sadly there hasn't been any progress on the other bug :-(

I provided a well tested patch at Bug 780124 comment 147 but apparently the requested reviewer (Kent James) never responded. I had completely forgotten about this.

The reporter above, I think, says "not in sent (f)older" while bug 780124 says the email does go to sent folder but not actually sent. So is this the same thing?

We're well aware of that. Kent has "mostly" left the project. We will move bug 780124 to completion now.
