Steps to reproduce:

I recently freshly installed Linux Mint 19. I had backed-up my entire Home folder, including Thunderbird. When I  installed Thunderbird 52.9.1, everything seemed fine. Then I noticed that while all my calendar items were intact, none of the reminders I set were working. I check

Then I noticed that while all my calendar items were intact, none of the reminders I set were working. I checked Thunderbird->Preferences->Calendar and confirmed that the Reminder Defaults for both Events and Tasks were set to "ON". Default time a reminder is set before a task/event is at 30 minutes.


Expected results:

Even though the task and event reminders are set as described above, when I  create a new event or task, the default reminder comes up as "No reminder". Even when I  manually set the reminder and save the task or event, when I go back into it, the reminder has disappeared.  I even went into the "Config Editor" and it shows "[{"method":"popup","minutes":30}]". So, the settings are correct, however, it is still not working.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird and Lightning a few times, but it makes not difference.  I then created a new profile and imported my old profile data into the new one and get the same results with the reminders not working.
Note: When I uninstall and reinstall Thunderbird and Lightning with a new profile and DO NOT import my own profile, then the default reminder setting work fine.

Is this report about the reminder is fired for preexisting events or the reminder setting seems wrong in the event dialog/tab?

If the latter and you're having version 4.4.1 of the Provider for Google addon installed, this is likely a duplicate  bug 1481043 and will be fixed for 4.4.2.

If the former, are there any messages in the error console after Starting TB or at the time the reminders were expected to fire?

As a test, I disabled Provider for Google Calendar and restarted Thunderbird. The add-on must be the problem, because now the default reminder setting is working.

Do we have any idea when 4.4.2 will be released?

Check for updates in the addon manager, 4.4.2 is available on ATN.
