[Regression][iPad] Tabs counter is not updated when closing tabs directly from the toolbar

Master and v14.x (12458), only iPad
Steps
Open several tabs using the '+' button (i.e. 4)
Then close one by one using the 'x' button
Actual
The tabs counter is not updated. Although tabs are removed the number shows the total of tabs open at the beginning(4). Please see screenshot attached.
Expected
As the tabs are closed the tabs counter is updated
