I would like to leave this open, because essentially the way this is "fixed" in Nightly is for the launcher process to disable itself. If you check your about:support, you will probably find the Launcher Process state set to "Disabled due to failure". In the long term, we would like to fix that, but for the purposes of release on 67, this is exactly what we want to see.

Hi Aaron, we are having some difficulties starting the 64bit version of Firefox Nightly 67.0a1 (2019-03-01) with Huorong, we can see the process from Process Explorer being terminated directly, which is weird since before it would just disable itself, on the 32bit version of Firefox the Launcher process shows enabled and works great.

I also tried older versions of Firefox from when I was sure it worked and still wouldnt start, it seems the latest update from Huorong blocks it on 64bit versions.

Can you point me to a link for the version of Huorong that you reproduced this with?

This is where we kept downloading Huorong from https://www.huorong.cn/.

Please note that only the 64 bit version of Firefox is blocked, I just tried the 32bit version of Firefox on the 64bit Windows 10 and Firefox starts without issues.

Not sure if the attachment is useful but that is the process that shuts down the firefox. And yes this only occurs on Machines with Huorong installed.

I cannot reproduce this. I am running Huorong 4.0.82.10, Nightly Win64 build 20190308093915.
I had installed Huorong with no additional configuration and then ran Nightly. It started fine, it even had the launcher process enabled!
Were there any configuration changes made? Different version of Huorong?
Can you try again with the versions that I just used?

I tried the latest versions of Firefox, I have downloaded and Installed Firefox in C: Program files and it works from there, it does not work however if you download the zip file and try to start Firefox from the Unzipped Folder, this only occurs on 64bit Operating Systems with Huorong installed.

My understanding is that starting Firefox from an unzipped folder, while expected to work for development purposes, is not a supported installation mechanism on release.
Does it work with Huorong if Firefox is installed using the installer but to a different directory from C:\Program Files
?

Yes it works from C:\ but not from unzipped folders, my problem is that it used to work normally like with any other antivirus and now it just wont start from the unzipped folder, what changed ? why does it work with other AV's but not with Huorong, is this not a concern? could it stop working from C:\ when Huorong updates ?

Huorong officials said they had fixed the problem. (http://bbs.huorong.cn/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=49615&page=1#pid300851)
I have confirmed that Firefox can already starting up with Huorong on my machine.
However, the launcher process disabled forcebly
displayed in about:support.

That indicates that the launcher process is preffed off. Currently you need to have studies enabled, plus browser.launcherProcess.enabled
set to true
in your about:config
.

I tried to set browser.launcherProcess.enabled
to true
in about:config
, but it reset to false
after restarting Firefox.

If you're still having problems with this, please file a new bug. This is a separate issue from the topic that we are discussing in this bug.

We don't care whether or not it works from unzipped folders. Installing Firefox by unzipping is not supported for end users.

Isn't this a bit too strong? IMO, unsupported means for example OSX 10.8 or Windows XP, where we explicitly state we are not supporting and you cannot install the latest versions. However, extracting it from an official mozilla ftp works just fine, it's Mozilla signed as well. Could you elaborate where we state we don't support extracting Firefox vs using an installer?

A11y would be completely broken when run from an extracted zip because its COM DLLs would never be registered.
Could you elaborate where we state we don't support extracting Firefox vs using an installer?
I had asked jimm and rstrong, and they indicated to me that this had never been supported for end users. For internal use, sure. I suggest that you follow up with them if you need a more authoritative answer.
