Per the Release Engineering Python Standards wiki [1], we need to deploy python 3.7.1 within a month after release. Python 3.7.1 was released on October 20 [2], meaning we should deploy it by November 20.
At a high level, we need to:
- build a custom python 3.7.1 RPM
- build a custom python 3.7.1 DMG
- write puppet patch(es) to roll those out. The rpm and dmg can be rolled out separately.
- test
- roll out. We may have to do this in batches, unless we somehow solve the long-virtualenv-rebuild-time problem.
Splitting out into multiple bugs to a) avoid a huge block of text here, and b) allow for easier divvying up of tasks between people.
