Hi Wayne, I tried to reproduce this issue in Firefox Nightly 65.0a1 (2018-11-06) but without any success, can you try to reproduce this issue using a fresh profile you can find the steps here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager

and let us know if you can still reproduce this issue.

I was only able to reproduce it if I click the Next video from a Playlist, only then it will load and play that video.

Just now, I went to foxnews.com. I clicked on a random article towards the top of the page. When the page loaded, but before the video had started, I scrolled down enough to cause the mini player on their site open on the right hand side of the page. The video and accompanying audio started without any permission from me. This was using a brand new profile, which I created following your instructions.

Hello again, I reached Fox News and I clicked a random article from the top and again the video would not start, but then I clicked one of the videos on the side and regardless of my preferences the video would start and play with sound, is That the problem you are seeing as well ?

Please Check the screen capture I made and let me know if that is the issue you are seeing as well: https://streamable.com/2ooty

I'm unsure if playing those videos on the side is intended behavior or not, but I will mark this issue as new and set a component for it. Please feel free to change it if this issue is Invalid.

Please also note that in Firefox 63.0.1 and Beta 64.0b7 The Permission pop-up for Autoplay is not displayed and videos are set to play regardless.

I assumed this issue occurred on Nightly on the 65 Branch and not on the Release version of Firefox.

I believe the behavior in comment 3 is by design: Clicking on a video that opens on the same page (see url) is intent to play.

But what's reported in comment 0 and comment 2 seems different, and would be a bug, so I'll move this back to UNCONFIRMED until we can reproduce.

Wayne, does that sound right? What platform did this happen on? Any other sites we can try? I believe at the moment, Firefox's autoplay protection only protects users on (new) page load. Once they click on page to interact with it, pages are allowed to play with audio. CC'ing Alastor for confirmation on that.

Yes, what Rares desribed in comment3 is our intended behavior, we would allow audible autoplay if user has activated sites by clicking, keyboard pressing, touching and pointing.

In addition, I can't reproduce comment 0 and comment 2.

I currently see this on cyclingtips.com (which embeds vimeo videos). The video starts playing without permissions to play, and it seems to do this whether I set autoplay to "always ask" or "don't autoplay"

I cannot repeat it on cnn.com or foxnews.com. Both those sites ask permission for me.

cyclingtips uses an iframe. Opening the iframe alone does not autoplay.

I filed bug 1517166 for this. Unclear whether it's the same issue as this bug.

I cannot reproduce anything mentioned here without actually interacting with the website in some way. Should we close this bug?
