I am attaching a short screencast to demo the issue.

I got the bug twice this week and found what was wrong, the link I was inserting had a space at the beginning.

Trimming the text before formatting it into markdown seems like an option.

I don't know why the text field is prepopulated with http:// but if there is a use case for the prepopulation of the text field with the http protocol, it should be https:// by default.

If the purpose of prepopulating the field is just to hint at the fact that the url has to start with https to work, then adding `placeholder="https://"` to the input field seems to me more adequate.

Thanks
I see that. Does seem like an issue. That widget is a 3rd party thing we've been using for years. I'll see if there's an update or some other markdown helper. Alternatively using a desktop Markdown editor and then pasting into the field might be even better and more convenient for people, but if you (and other editors) like the one in the admin we can certainly keep it.
Personnally, I like the editor, that's while I file bugs to see it improved ;)
Fair enough :) I'll see what I can figure out. Thanks for the bug.

We are up-to-date with this package. I filed an issue there to see if there's something we can do upstream.
